Making big decisions

How do you make big decisions in life? Something that will be a major life event, something that could cost you everything, something you are not sure you can do, but where the rewards have got the potential to go way beyond what you think is possible. How do you make a decision about this?

I'm on my way from Brisbane to Cairns on push bike. This is a test of my gear, my physical strength and my mental capacity to take on the much bigger overland bike tour from New Zealand to Denmark.

Things don't always go according to plan. My back tyre split far from anywhere. Fortunately, I was carrying a spare tyre and tube so I had it all fixed and was back on the road again in less than one hour. I still did nearly 100km that day.

Australia is very flat in places, it's getting quite hot for me and I don't see anyone to talk to for hours. However, I never feel lonely, get bored or want to go somewhere more comfortable. I'm enjoying the journey often with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.

So I've decided to give the BIG trip a go!

Why? I'm excited about the adventure and all the people I'm going to meet and the stories I will get to tell. It's my hope that I get to inspire others to take on projects they didn't think they could do.

I'm a few days from Cairns now. When I get there, I'll fly home to Wellington for a week to rent out my house for 12 months and sell my car to finance the trip up through Southeast Asia and beyond.

Join me for the journey!
